W. W. Jacobs
W. W. Jacobs was born in London in 1863. Although his family never had much money, his father sent him to a private school. He studied at university and then became a bank clerk. All the time he was employed at the bank, W. W. Jacobs was writing short stories, most of them funny. However, his most famous work is not a funny one but the horror story, ‘The Monkey’s Paw’. Most of his other writing is not read very often nowadays but ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ is still very popular. He died in 1943.
