Jean Aicard
Jean Aicard was born in France in 1848, the son of a famous journalist. But, strangely, he never knew his mother. When his father died, Jean went to live with his grandparents and, eventually, graduated from university with a degree in law. He never became a lawyer though. Soon after, his poems were published in newspapers and books. He also wrote plays and novels.
Jean Aicard was very successful as a writer – especially as a poet – while he was alive, but he is read much less now, even in his native France. He died in 1921.
